Meet Hilary, Your West Bend Dog Trainer
Hilary Martelle trains dogs in West Bend, Wisconsin, using e-collar work done the way it should be done: with love and affection, and with the dog's temperament leading the plan rather than a fixed curriculum.
Her clients tend to describe the same two things. The first is communication, daily videos while a dog is in board and train, so you watch the change happen instead of hearing about it at pickup. The second is that she trains the owner as much as the dog. The tools go home with you, which is why the results hold once the leash is in your hand.
Alongside the training business she rehabilitates rescue dogs and places them with the families who need them, including psychological service dogs matched to their handlers.

An absolute transformation for our golden! We sent our 18 month old golden to Harbor Canine for their two week training program. Cannot say enough good things about Hillary and her team. This was our pups first time away from home and she couldn’t have gone to a more loving place. From hour 1 on day 1, Harbor Canine started training, teaching our pup to be brave, listen, and have skills we had to idea how to teach. Not only was training immediate but we got constant updates throughout the two week duration which left us at ease that she was in terrific hands. We had an incredible experience working with Hillary to train our dog, Zara. Before starting, we struggled with leash pulling and reactivity around other dogs, but Hillary’s approach to e-collar training has been an absolute game-changer. Thanks to her expertise, Zara now walks beautifully without pulling and is significantly less responsive to distractions and other dogs. Hilary at Harbor Canine is fantastic! She is kind, patient, and very realistic about her training programs and strategies. Our 1 year old Rottweiler completed a 1 week board and train with Harbor Canine to work on basic obedience with a special focus on loose leash walking and fear reactivity towards cars and other neighborhood stimuli. Hilary continues to be a key member of our team as we still meet weekly for check-in walks/practice. Another huge benefit of being part of the Harbor Caine family is that our pup has the option to board with Hilary and her family while we are out of town. It is so reassuring to know he is somewhere comfortable and feeling loved by familiar people while we are away!
